Stress is the reaction of the autonomic nervous system to real or imagined danger. It is the human body’s instinctive defence against attack. In the event of threatened or actual physical attack, the fight or flight mechanism kicks in and the system releases adrenaline to boost the body’s ability to fight off the attacker or run away quicker than normal.
The fight or flight mechanism was very useful in the days of cavemen being chased by sabre-toothed tigers. Stress wasn’t really an issue then but in the modern day running away or fighting will often make things worse. Our hormones in our bodies cannot differentiate between a sabre-toothed tiger and angry person. These physical changes were only to last until the present dangers had gone for a few moments however these changes can last for days, weeks and months if the stress keeps on approaching.

We often feel that we can’t do anything about stress, that its ‘just the way it is’. Understanding stress and how it affects each of us is crucial.
Whilst it may be possible to examine our lives and work out ways that we can reduce the stress in our lives, it is perhaps much more realistic to find ways to deal with it and hypnotherapy can help a great deal in this respect.
Hypnotherapy can help you become less stressed and anxious and be able to live a more relaxed life.
We can look at the causes of your stress, offer a variety of stress reduction techniques and teach you to respond to stress more positively.
