Gratitude Inspires Happiness

Inspire happiness instantly by thinking of five things you are grateful. Try it and see! We often look for happiness in material possessions, fame or recognition. However, science has shown us again and again that it is our inner attitudes that inspire lasting happiness. Happiness that follows material goals is short lasting. It is only inner positive attitudes that last.

Happiness comes in all shapes, sizes, tastes and colors, all you need to do is watch out for what comes your way. In the darkest of storms, there may be a ray of hope. In the ugliest of mud pools, there would be a lotus sprung with all its glory. In the times of adversity and profane hopelessness, there is something to be thankful for. That is where gratitude kicks in. Sometimes, it takes too much of an effort to feel grateful for all that you have when for so long you’ve been focusing on the things you wish to possess.

Learning to practice an “attitude of gratitude” each day creates and sustains happiness. It is easy to see why. Clinical research has shown time and again that the more you focus on what you are thankful for, the more abundant, and therefore, happy, you feel.

Five Ways to Inspire Happiness

1. Jot Things Down

Mentioning thoughts of gratitude creates a domino effect on them. Be contagious, share your joy and feeling with others, but do it with yourself first. This works as a reminder that helps when other motivational factors may cease to drag you out of a confined state of sadness and depression. Keeping a gratitude diary helps validate your own feelings and increases the positive ones.

2. Wander and Wonder

Notice everything around yourself, move from your place and explore to see what you’ve got out there. Feel the inner energy. Too many times we are fixated on something we aspire to have that we miss out on the small joys of life that we take for granted. Let yourself be amazed by how much nature has given to you and everyone around you. Its simple.

3. Find Your Purposes

You’re definitely not walking on the earth just to eat, earn, sleep, rinse and repeat. There’s some divine purpose in play here, believe it or not. Explore the smarts gifted to you and make the most of them. Find a cause you could contribute to and have passion towards it, you may be surprised at how happy it feels. Contentment for real reasons sinks deeper than a shallow grin, it glows. Feel the awareness.

4. Learn from Mistakes

Learn from your past, and only visit your past to gain some insight but don’t dwell there. Learning from mistakes helps develop a habit of gratitude, and ensures that you’re no longer the same person who was prone to committing follies and have learnt lessons for good. Yes, that sigh of relief is relaxing. In rough times, this thought brings happiness that you have gone through worse and lived to tell the tale.

5. Be Generous with Compliments

Shower yourself and people around you with compliments. For the correct reasons, but don’t be a miser when it is someone you might not have praised, just do it. This style of pampering makes one feel good about him/her self. Also, the fact that people are oozing positive energies towards you gets you high on euphoria.

The state of happiness for some people lasts for a short time despite all the practices of gratitude and humility. They might be in need of help as they’re unable to get out of a miserable situation and pessimism that sinks them deep in the ocean of despair. Hypnosis is a technique that helps in this regard. Ultimate focus on the positive areas and shunning pessimistic thoughts.
